Swainson's Thrush

Real strength is not just a condition of one's muscle, but a tenderness in one's spirit.

Thrushes are my favorite bird singers (Mockingbirds a close second). This Swainson's looks so unassuming. Difficult to tell what a beautiful singer she is. This year I have finally been appreciating the true Robin song (as opposed to alarm and general communication calls) that tells they really are a member of the thrush family. I have some great singers in the yard.

Oh the Swainson's thrush sings my favorite song. That sound is the sound of faraway summertime. Such a pretty little bird.

Thanks for linking your bird photos to their songs. One of my goals this year is to try and recognise a few more bird songs - I am really bad at it at the moment!

Swainson's Thrush looks very much like our Mistle Thrush - which in turn looks similar to our Song Thrush! Beautiful singers, both of them. And yes - it's easy to forget that the Robin is a member of the family, until they sing.

I can't hear the song, because I don't have Real Player. I'm going to try to find it though!
