They're very rare over here so that is quite a sight! They do breed up in Scotland, and a few years ago they re-introduced a pair to Rutland Water which is about an hour's drive from here. I haven't seen them, but I hear they're doing well. Sadly they have to take measures to protect the nest from vandals.
Hi Jay! thanks for the site on the Osprey in the UK. I remember just a last year I think that they arrested an egg collector in the UK, a past offender too. we have people shooting birds all the time. most of it goes un-noticed until someone finds the remains. so sad really. Thanks for the heads up Suzanne! I will check in tomorrow to see your Osprey!
I once had the privilege of being in the water when an osprey swooped down and caught a fish about ten feet away from me. As he rose with his catch, he shook his feathers just as a dog shakes his fur. The moment lives on and on for me.

thank you ladies, and yes we do live close to the nest, but unfortunately they are not easy to get to this photo was taken from a small boat.

That is amazing. We have Ospreys here in FL but I never get close enough to see the nests.
