Snowy Rufus
We are on day two of lots of snow and it is snowing again. Every half hour I go and brush an 1/2 inch or so of snow off the hummer feeder. Seems to cold for them, I hope they are as tough as they are feisty.

Three days of rain
Doldrums, we are in the middle of rainy doldrums, and the sad part is we really need the rain, and yet I complain...

Great Horned Owls
We went out to see these two young owls Sunday, the weather was ok, certainly not light, mostly overcast. So the photo is dark but you can see that it is an owl. There are two actually, the other is behind the first. It was great to walk and chat, and get some photos for the future. Click to enlarge.

Male Rufus Humming Bird has arrived!
Yes I know this is a photo from last year. This year a male Rufus showed up on Mar 8, last year is was Mar 16, the year before that Mar 22, and is 2005 - Mar 21. Spring has officially arrived at our house.

California Tortoiseshell
The first butterfly of the year for me! These hardy butterflies will produce one brood in the late spring/summer and they will live until the next spring to try to reproduce, then die. Can you see the notch out of one wing, its a hard life for a butterfly.

Turkey Vultures
I made the cover of the Turkey Vulture Society newsletter! well not me, just a photo I took. Click on them to see them full size. This is a photo of them over my house in the fall, during their migration south. Thanks to Diann MacRae for submitting my photo.
