Grey Whale

To The Last Whale
~Graham Nash and David Crosby

Over the years you have been hunted by the men who threw harpoons
And in the long run we will kill you just to feed the pets we raise
Put the flowers in your vase and make the lipstick for your face
Over the years you swam the ocean following feelings of your own
Now you are washed up on the shoreline I can see your body lie
It's a shame you have to die to put the shadow on our eye
Maybe we'll go, maybe we'll disappear
It's not that we don't know, it's just that we don't want to care
Under the bridges, over the foam, wind on the water, carry me home
Over the years you swam the ocean following feelings of your own
Now you are washed up on the shoreline I can see your body lie
It's a shame you have to die to put the shadow on our eye
Under the bridges, over the foam, wind on the water, carry me home

please check out Animal Planet tonight and watch Whale Wars

I see them rise up out of the sea, or just their spray as they come up for air. I feel a deep shame for what we have done to them.

Thanks for this reminder, Dawn, and this wonderful photo. Perhaps we'll have a new administration that is eco-friendly?!? :)

Sometimes I just can't stand it. But thanks for the tip. And I'll bet they don't even mention the Navy Sonar issue. Well, if you wear makeup, Dr. Haushka is excellent and, although a bit expensive, does not use parts of whales, I'm sure.

As for the president elect's stand on Animal Welfare, it's very positive and you can read a great post about it on redapes.org

Thanks for the post, Dawn.

I just saw on the evening news that the whale population in Puget Sound is decreasing rapidly.
Beautiful picture and I remember that song from my misspent youth!
