Silver phased Red Fox

"We need another and a wiser and perhaps a more mystical concept of animals. Remote from universal nature and living by complicated artifice, man in civilization surveys the creature through the glass of his knowledge and sees thereby a feather magnified and the whole image in distortion. We patronize them for their incompleteness, for their tragic fate for having taken form so far below ourselves. And therein do we err. For the animal shall not be measured by man. In a world older and more complete than ours, they move finished and complete, gifted with the extension of the senses we have lost or never attained, living by voices we shall never hear. They are not brethren, they are not underlings: they are other nations, caught with ourselves in the net of life and time, fellow prisoners of the splendor and travail of the earth." -
~Henry Beston "The Outermost House"

It's as if you tell the animals how to pose and ask them to say 'cheese.' Beautiful creature and great photo.

Thank you for the quote, Dawn, and for introducing me to animals I've never seen before! If you go to:
http://erstwork.blogspot.com/2008/05/charles-towne-landing.html
you can read about the time I saw a chief bear and chief wolf hold a meeting with their tribes behind them.

I know that the image is cropped weird, and I have tried to resize the photo smaller to fix the problem, but that as not worked. Other bloggers are also having problems with images so I hope it will be fixed before my next post.

Loved the quote and the photo. What a handsome fellow! But you'll have to take another photo because I think he blinked in this one :)

I love the quote! So many people don't get that.

Lovely picture too.

It's always like stepping into a Zen garden when I come here. This post means so much to me in light of a recent loss. My 15 year old cat, Nizzy, was humanely euthanized, Saturday, in the home she spent her life in. Hard as it was (my first time), I feel as though I gave her wings.
