Yes this picture was taken in the summer. I wanted to use it to brag about my three owl week. I heard and talked to a male Great-Horned Owl, and heard a Barn Owl at the same time. Then a few nights later a Barred Owl woke me up with his Hoo-aw call, a call a pair will hoot for long-distance communication. Even though we are in the middle of winter, these birds are getting ready to nest and breed. What a thrill!
I love these little birds. Very hard to photograph in the grey light and dark woods. They eat bugs from the live trees and nest under the bark in dieing trees. I feel lucky that we get to see them year around here in the PNW.
